Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-21

This Privacy Policy explains what information PoliticSNS ("the Service") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The Service is designed around anonymity: you are never asked for your real name, email address, or phone number to use it.

1. Information We Collect

  • Anonymous account identifier. On your first visit we generate a random anonymous ID and an auto-assigned display name (e.g. "User1234"), stored in a secure, HTTP-only cookie (__Host-user) on your device. This ID is not linked to your real identity by us.
  • Content you submit. Posts, comments, tags, and any images or videos you upload, along with the political-affiliation tag you choose for a post.
  • Profile data. An optional avatar image, if you choose to add one.
  • Moderation data. Blocks you create between anonymous accounts, and reports you submit about posts or comments, so that abuse can be reviewed and content hidden from the accounts involved.
  • Technical data. Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, requested URL) kept for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.
  • Session and security cookies. A session cookie and a CSRF token used to keep the site secure and to remember settings like your selected language.

2. How We Use Information

  • Operate core features: showing posts, comments, search, and trending tags;
  • Keep your anonymous session and preferences (such as language) working across visits;
  • Enforce blocks between users and act on reports of abusive content;
  • Protect the Service against fraud, spam, and security threats; and
  • Diagnose and fix technical problems.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use your content to build advertising profiles.

3. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, all necessary for the Service to function:

  • __Host-user — identifies your anonymous account (1 year);
  • a session cookie — keeps your session and CSRF protection working (cleared when the browser session ends); and
  • a language preference, where applicable.

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell or rent your information. We may share information:

  • with service providers who help us host and run the Service, under confidentiality obligations;
  • if required to comply with a valid legal request, such as a court order; or
  • to protect the rights, safety, or property of the Service, our users, or the public.

5. Data Retention

Posts and comments remain visible until deleted by you or removed by moderation. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes and then deleted or anonymized. You can delete your own posts and comments at any time from the menu on each item.

6. Your Choices

  • You can delete any post or comment you authored at any time.
  • You can block other anonymous accounts to stop seeing their content and being seen by them.
  • You can clear your __Host-user cookie in your browser to disconnect from your current anonymous identity; a new one will be issued on your next visit.
  • You can change the interface language from the site's language options.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age required by local law to participate in public political discussion. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Security

We use HTTPS, HTTP-only/secure cookies, CSRF tokens, and other technical safeguards to help protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be indicated on this page.
